I have a variety of experience, so I’m pretty much open to almost anything!. New websites, website re-design, custom programming, hosting and much more. But what I really concentrate on is WordPress installations. My rationale is quite simple, most web sites require some sort of content management system (CMS).
But why would you want a content management system (CMS)? CMS is software that makes it easy for nontechies to organize and manage web content. That’s big, because it makes maintaining and updating a website simple and affordable. In the early days, getting content into your website was a slow and painful process for everyone involved, not to mention expensive. Nowadays, thanks to the advent of WYSIWYG editors (”What You See Is What You Get”) and content management systems, you don’t need a degree in computer science to update a website. A CMS is an enormous boost to the small business or organization that does not have a massive tech budget. It simplifies the process and puts the website back into the hands of content creators, allowing you to spend more time on what really matters—your content.
So why WordPress? For starters, WordPress is a free, open-source content management system that offers simple and elegant administration, a wealth of extensions, and incredible control over design. But I don’t want you to take my word for it, so here is a list of web site that are not blog sites, but use WordPress as their CMS: Nikonfestival, Icondock, Krispkrush, Typographica, Andyroddick, Creativeawards, Good, Champagnewarehouse, Fordstory and Healogix.
Not a bad list, and really, that’s just a start. There are thousands of websites out there using WordPress as their CMS because it is affordable. Oh, did I mention that there are thousands of free WordPress Themes that you can use to style your site. Here are a couple three sites that you can check out to see if there’s a theme you like: wordpressthemesbase.com, Smashing Magazine and WordPress Hacks. And if these aren’t enough, simple google “WordPress Themes + Free” and check the results.
You’re probably thinking, well that nice, but I haven’t any idea about how I would use WordPress to create my site! Well, that were I can help. I have grown to love WordPress more and more. Elegant, open source, lightweight, and easy to learn – WordPress is the open source blog and CMS software I recommend. And as you have probably have gathered by now, I find WordPress to be a superb publishing system – a lot more than just a platform to power blogs – it’s a way to publish just about anything online.
So if you’ve got an idea, want to start your own web site, or re-design your existing site and need help, please take a few moments to fill out as many details about your project as you can on the form here. Because each project is unique, I do not have a set price list that I can provide, so in order to accurately estimate the project costs, I need to know what you want the website to do and look like. The more information, the better.
